Cool Treats for Cool Kids – Popsicle Molds Review

What kid, or adult for that matter, doesn’t enjoy a cool treat on a hot day? There is something just so refreshing about a freezie, juice pop, or ice cream cone. The problem is that so many of the options out there seem to contain so much sugar! This year, I found a great solution to that problem and I started using popsicle molds. I am now making my own cool treats for my family and everyone is loving them! By using these popsicle molds I am able to control exactly what goes into them and my family still gets to enjoy a nice cold treat! Everyone wins!

I found these great popsicle molds at Ikea for only $1.99! I really liked how each popsicle was its own individual unit but that it also had a base to rest all of them together. Being able to only take one popsicle out and not have to fumble around to loosen one from the rest makes it very easy. Also I find that having the container for each popsicle allows the kids to keep the drips a little more contained – this especially comes in handy when the kids are trying to play while trying to eat their treat as they can easily pop in back into the popsicle mold and put it down without it getting dirty!

This summer I have had fun exploring different popsicle options for the kids. One of my favourites (and their favourites as well) has been just a simple ice pop! Yup, you heard me right, just plain ice! My kids have always thought ice cubes were great fun and so with that in mind, I often just fill the popsicle molds with water and sit back and smile as they enjoy their completely natural water pops!

Taking the water idea just one step further, you can make it a little more exciting (and a little fancy and pretty) by adding some fresh fruit or berries. Other great options to fill your popsicle molds include yogurt to make your own frozen yogurt, fresh fruit juices to make a truly tasty fruit popsicle or when you make up your tasty smoothie in the morning, make a little extra and freeze that for yourself or your kids to enjoy! Really, the possibilities are endless! If you can fit in the in the mold and it freezes, you can make it into a tasty popsicle!

These are also so easy and safe to make that the kids can easily make their own, or at the very least help you make them! My 11 year old loves mixing up various concoctions of mixed juices to freeze for him and his friends!

These popsicle molds are pretty easy to come by, but you can also just use your icecube tray with some sticks in each slot or even a small plastic cup to make slightly larger treats!

Tell us, do you make your own popsicles? What is your favourite cool treat?
